Ten small yet huge words have been replaying on a continuous loop in my mind from a recent message from a dear friend. Towards the end of a heartfelt note to say she’d been thinking of me and to share an update of how well things are going in her life, confession of a fear that “the other shoe is going to drop sooner or later” leapt off the page.
It troubled and saddened me to know that the fear of something changing prevents her from fully relishing every moment of all that is great, right here, right now.
After pondering her words at length, I realized how humanly normal it is for the dastardly duo of fear and self-doubt to rear their ugly heads and distract us from fully savoring the very greatness that is life itself.
As we progress in claiming the authentic stories of our lives, the parts of us that identify with the inauthentic status quo are going to be threatened. It’s natural for those old parts of us to put up the fight of their lives for their very existence because they know they’re on their way out. Fear and self-doubt are among the most common foils we subconsciously cast to hold ourselves back from fully claiming our authentic stories.
So what’s the anecdote? Go barefoot – kick off the very shoe we fear dropping!
Neutralize fear and self-doubt by shining the light of all that is good and true.
Fear and self-doubt simply are phantoms, figments of our imagination that can hold us back only if we allow them to materialize. When they show up, it’s actually a good sign because their very presence is a signal that we’re gaining ground on something we’d love. They’re making themselves known in a last-ditch attempt to restrain us, but their days are numbered. Our acute awareness of their presence and purpose opens the door to reframe our perspective and step through to the truth.
Consider that when things go well, when we accomplish the previously unattainable, when we feel so great we want to shout it from the rooftops, consider that is the way we’re meant to live. These moments of joy and delight are our birthright, the rule – not the exception – of our very existence.
The life that Spirit beckons to live through each and every one of us yearns for its freest, fullest expression.
This means staring down fear and self-doubt and expanding our capacity to receive and embrace the endless abundance of the Universe.
Go ahead, kick off that proverbial other shoe and fully savor every moment of the richness that is life itself!
